AGM and presentation on the EAST LONDON WATERWORKS PARK
This year we combine our AGM with a report on the community crowdfunded project that hopes to turn a disused waterworks on Lea Bridge Road into a brownfield rainforest complete with wild swimming in Victorian filter beds.
Celia Coram and Cathy McLoughlin are volunteers from East London Waterworks Park, a community-led project to transform an industrial site on Lea Bridge Road into a new urban park with wild swimming ponds that will reconnect the marshes and nature reserves of the Lower Lea Valley into a coherent whole. They will explain how 3 and a half years ago, a small group of local residents identified a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve the environment, and the physical and mental health of the people of East London and how this big dream has become a dynamic, inclusive and collaborative project that has captured people’s imaginations, with a clear plan for creating the future we deserve.
