Lewis McNeill  from the Urban Orchard Project  and Russell Miller of Tree Musketeers will speak on their planting of orchards on estates in London with some very useful tips for your own garden fruit trees.DBG_AprilPoster

Greening your own garden

This annual fundraiser includes a dog show as well as a prizes for adults and children in a variety of categories including baking, flower arranging, fruit, vegetables and photography.

Italian Gardens of the Renaissance – Deborah Trentham of the Garden Historians

Kew Trip to the island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands – Miranda Janatka

Miranda will be speaking about her trip.  As part of her diploma course Miranda is going to the BVI for two weeks in May 2016. She is taking part in a project which will enable the the J R O’Neal Botanic Garden to convert from selling non-native plants to selling endangered endemic plants collected nearby and kept there as part of an ex-situ collection. Threatened native species have already been established in cultivation at the J R O’Neal Botanic Garden such as Leptocereus quadricostatus and Malpighia woodburyana. She will be supporting and training the two members of staff who work in thenursery, neither of whom have formal horticultural training.  She is also visiting Sage Mountain National Park and Shark Bay national park to observe and document native plants.
